History of Cavaliers Inc CAVALIERS, INC.., a organization comprised of many different entities, was once a support organization to the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha. In those days, the organization that you see before you was called something different, being that it was prime affiliated with the AKA's, it was called MIAKA'S or (Men Interested in AKA). During the 56 years of its existence unitl 1979, there were many branches of this organization. Cavalier, one of the branches of this organization, was founded Feburary 5, 1979, and sought to become the prime affiliation, and organization name. The "Knight" the official mascot of this great manhood, still stands proud and bodly before you today. Although the majority of the chapters were in place at various predominantly black institutiions, some were placed at other schools. During the year of 1979 members of the chapter at Fort Valley State University declared independency. They sought to have all chapters become independent. Many followed, but some stayed up under the guidance of AKA. During the year of 1988 the NPHC (National Pan-Hellenic Council) declared among all affiliates that there could no longer be any support organizations under AKA guidance. This brought forth a RENAISSANCE for all C.I. chapters with the leaders being FVSU, who sought to become incorporated. Many chapters joined this round table of KNIGHTHOOD with FVSU leading the way. Chapters such as Albany State University, Clark Atlanta, Morehouse, Valdosta State, Voorhees, Middle Georgia, Tuskegee Institute, Tenessee State, Grambling State, Southern University at Sheverport, Paine College, and many more. The CAVALIER organization during its 75 years of service has continued the legacy. A social/service organization that serves mankind throughout the world without discrimination. Doing such service to the community as AIDS Awareness, Nursing home vistations, Volunteer tutoring, and mentoring programs. Unlike others within the Fraternal Order of Non-Greek, Cavalier/C.I. Inc.continues to let the light shine set forth by its forefathers. REAL MEN, ARE CAVALIER MEN! Other Affiliations The Emerald Queens The Emerald Queen organization, is the sister organization to the Cavaliers. Founded in 1991, at Fort Valley State University, it was founded by the men of Cavalier, to have young ladies with the same mind frame as their brothers. The goal of the organization is to provide its female members with sisterhood, and to help maintain and follow the leagcy of the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers and Emerald Queens display a "true" sense of brotherhood and sisterhood, participating together in chanting, various social services, and also supporting each other functions. While displaying the purple and green colors of "EQE", these foxy ladies assist the Cavaliers with many functions. Functions including parties, meetings, service activities, the crossing over of new I's, the list goes on and on. CI/EQ Nongreek auxiliary groups (Omega Pearls/Essence/Gems/Sweethearts; Alpha Angels/Golden Roses/LBGs/Sweethearts; Sigma Doves/Carnations/Stars/SOUL/Sweethearts; Iota Sweethearts, Beaux/Delta Gents; Cavaliers/MiAKA; Zeta Knights, and Sigma Rhomeos were under the guidance of their perspective greek organizations to groom and prepare young women and men for greek life. The one exception is the Kappa Diamonds/Kittens/KKI/PGI/Sweethearts which was started by the girlfriends and wives of members of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc. Many of these organizations were founded early on in the life of their perspective greek organizations. The Omega Pearls were founded in 1914, the kappa diamonds in 1947, the sigma doves in 1933, the alpha angels in 1962 and iota sweets during the 1960s. These young women and men were already exposed to greek life, learned the history of all the fraternites and sororities, parliamentary procedures, and participating in community service projects. We (auxiliary group members) were more that prepared for the journey into greek life. However many of the members chose not to "go greek" and become a "soror" or "frat" but remain nongreek. Now many greeks will deny this because it isn't in their history books and because of the disbanding vote in the early 90s but its true. Over time the nongreek organizations grew larger and more independent. Tensions grew between the greeks and nongreeks. Greeks saw us as being disrespectful because we chose not to join their organizations. It was not a matter of disrespect or we think we're better than you, just a matter of free will. So in 1990 all National Pan-Hellenic fraternities and sororities voted to disband their affliations with auxiliary groups (with the exception of Iota Phi Theta, their sweethearts are recognized nationally but under a very strict sweetheart directive). The reason we became unaffiliated is that auxiliary groups posed a threat to the single-sex status of Greek organizations which, under the U.S. Civil Rights Act, are allowed to discriminate against members of the opposite sex. But that status may be whittled away in the courts if Greeks maintain organizations of the opposite sex that perform many of the activities of a full member, such as paying dues and helping with rush, while not enjoying full membership. This fear is underscored by a Nebraska court case in which a little sister (for a white fraternity) sued for, and won, membership in her fraternity because she was engaged in the same activities as the brothers. However we still exist today, many have come into their own by getting incorporated (Krimson Kourts Inc.; Pretty Girls Inc. etc.) and are contributing to the community. Now they might not have the vast amount of resources that the greeks have but we do give 100%. Now I'll use my organization as an example, The Women of Omega, Inc. or WOO as we're better known, have presented young ladies to society at our Debutante Ball; scholarship fund, and other activities as well. So just because we don't have three letters doesn't mean we are not committed
